Introduction
Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. was established on October 1, 1997, through the merger of Mitsui Petrochemical Industries and Mitsui Toatsu Chemicals based on an agreement reached in 1996. By combined sales, Mitsui Chemicals is Japan's second-largest comprehensive chemical company and ranks 16th among the world's major petrochemical corporations. The company is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, with Shigenori Koda serving as Chairman and Akio Saki as President. At the time of the merger, the company had 8,046 employees. Its business activities primarily include basic petrochemical raw materials, synthetic fiber raw materials, basic chemicals, synthetic resins, chemical products, functional products, fine chemicals, and licensing.
